Thanks to everyone who worked in the background on the servers. I had extremely stable fps throughout the mission. Not sure if it was server related, but gonna go with 'yes' anyway ;) Good job

    This is the second in a series of polls that will be posted between now and deployment. The previous poll was in relation to our deployment date.

     

    The staff has penciled the start of August/September 2015 as the official Start of Deployment 6.

    At RG the only limit we have is our imagination. As we move closer to deployment I want your feedback on what you picture to be the ideal RG deployment setting. Select an option and give as much detail as possible.

     

    We have a solid Task Force set up, with some very diverse multi-talented individuals residing in our community. We have a great format that we use to conduct combined arms every week.This however limits our roles and how we perform them. 

     

    The RG Task Force (the core designation we represent every week in game) is what we know and do best. Deployments allow us to step back in time or in the boots of soldier within a famous operation while immersing ourselves in something new and challenging. It changes the way we think and use our talent here at RG, I want you to consider this when making your choice.

     

    In saying that, we have traditionally always deployed as the RG Task Force, so there are things like consistency and continuity to consider. Some nationalities or real world situations may be politically sensitive for some members, although I am sure everyone here is think skinned enough to go with the operational flow.

     

    Sections have the option of being something more or less specialised, In Operation Gothic Serpent (Black Hawk Down) the contrast was this:

     

    Rangers = Gambler

    SFOD-D = SFOD-V

    SOAR = TALON

    etc.

     

    There are a number of real world operations where Task Forces (made up from units all over the world) have come together to complete operations - Call-signs are always hard to remember and other organisational issues present themselves.

    Given the current situation in the world, I much prefer a made-up format of some sort. There's, for my liking, too much going down the drain as that I would like to 're-enact' it with the intensity of a real world deployment. Also, a made-up scenario with a solid background would allow us to twist the narrative so that it lends itself to the particular strengths of the taskforce.

     

    As for deployment type and mission design, I would much prefer something where we are on the road. Looking at what Sunday Operations we do, and how we use support, I have the feeling that ground support that is used close to Gambler is not only more used, but also provides a higher level of immersion. It has the advantage of being personell-intensive, so that everyone in our unit has something to do. - While I love flying, it provides ongoing content only for a limited amount of people, unless you use a devisive load of air assets, while it takes four to crew a tank or form a small fireteam with heavy portable weapons, and everyone has something to do for the mainstay of the mission with only very few "lulls".

    At uni we have a society known as crisis games, in which a made-up but feasible scenario (arctic oil grab, chinese presidential assassination) which gives everyone a great story, but places it in a context without having the issues either as mentioned by Quendan or the whole "okay we have to craft the story to fit the news feeds"

     

    Purely from a story aspect we can take a real world crisis which may or may not happen (hence me voting future) and chuck a crisis in, for example, if we went back to the jungle map (Not that we ever would because fuck that map) we could say something about say an argentinian civil war where we have been called in to help. In contrast id rather not use Boko Haram (Although for some reason i dont mind the idea of going and being ground troops in ISIL)

     

    In terms of support, I know as gambler I dont have the biggest say (nor would I want to) in how Talon run their ops, or how Vegas run theirs. But we could always use littlebirds as recon as needed if Vegas were doing something else. I think Armour will be needed at some point, everyone can agree that our heavy armoured missions are amazing.

    By we, I assume you mean Talon in the Littlebirds?

    The only thing that I don't like (just in casual way, no dramma) is completely made up political background scenarios (for example, D5 was well merged with today' politics IMO) since it ruins the immersion a bit. For me pesonally.

     

    I also wouldn't mind and might like to roleplay even the OPFOR sides, for example a Russian invading Europe and killing (my original countrymen) Lithuanians. Or ISIS, Taliban, conducting raids on those imperialist Americans and arrogant Brits, going in to cleanse towns of Christian populations, or some Affrican militia wiping out towns of opposing tribes. This would also bring in the more true picture of war and it's horrors into community.

    Jesting aside, I think we can do well either way, no matter the assets - Armoured Recon is a thing, too, as is Recon by fire.

     

    One further thing that is important to me is some sort of way to adress the spawning problems. Essentially, if we're on the move, people spawn at a FOB quite far off - in most cases those people dont have the radios to communicate all the way to where they need to be. At least for me, steam messages break immersion. Hence, I think it might be an option to include some sort of spawning in a vehicle (or a teleport inside of a HQ/medic vehicle) and then sorting out reinforcements in fixed intervals. But I think this might count as "leading the thread off-topic with age old discussions" :)

    There will be a poll along these lines Quendan, it is a good question. Key factors for this are 1.) our skill level at the time of deployment 2.) what everyone feels is right at the time. From experience MHQ's have always worked well and if regulated in spawn waves could add to realism.

     

    Lots of polls to be had :)
