HELP

anyone good with hard drives?

Best Answer The Icarus , 05 February 2015 - 12:23

Speaking of hard drives. I need a new external HDD. On my last one the usb broke recently so I had to make it internal.
Now I want a new drive and am considering between;

LaCie Porsche Design P'9230 2TB
and
Toshiba STOR.E Canvio Desktop 3TB

They are the same price and I don't care much for the 1TB difference. What I am more interested in is durability.
Which one would be best in terms of durability?

And don't tell me to just go with WD, because a friend of mine got one, it broke within half a year, warranty got him a new one and that one broke as well within the year. And he is real careful with that kind of stuff.

Any suggestions or alternatives? I'm looking to spend around 100 euros, little over is okay, with a minimum of 2TB. Optionally 2,5 inch instead of 3,5 as long as the durability, storage and price is okay. :)

    Just bought an SSD. And I want to reinstall windows on the new drive. But I want to clean my other drives as well. Both the hDDs are in RAID0 so is it possible to have the windows boot on the ssd and also keep the HDDs in raid0. And how would I go about doing that.

    If it were me I would.

    Step 1 - Pull the power cables only from both HDD's running in RAID 0 (or mark 1 cable and drive with pen so know which one plugs in where)

    Step 2 - Add the new SSD with new cables & Install windows on it

    Step 3 - Plug the power cables back in on the other HDD's, in the bios make sure that the SSD is the boot drive.

    Step 4 - Boot into windows form the SSD, you should now see an additional drive which will be the old HDD's in RAID 0

    Yes, all your data will still be on those drives... Wich you can always format afterwards if needed..
